I think that would actually be a really great idea. I know a great many people who would jump instantly upon the opportunity, and I sure as hell know I'd be watching it in the theaters.

*thumbs up*

I think newgrounds could do alot to promote 2D films in theatres...
I agree that they should produce movies...
that would be awesome...

awesomesaucy.

i'm not sure if newgrounds is the vehicle for this, but it is a great idea. i lament at how cg has conquered to movie business, not just in terms of animation. i wanted to go down the special effects/ prop making route for awhile and its decimated that industry. i would love to see the brilliant animators here, particularly the northern campers and RWD do full length storylines, but i dont see how that'd be possible on that grand a scale...... i say you should push forward though with that idea, in the very least newgrounds would help sponsor it, if they cant/wont do it themselves.

it'd be interesting to do a full length feature that demands segments from people, the collab idea is well known here of course, but it'd be a novel thing in theatres. sort of like pass-my-flash, with hand picked artists.

oh, good to see you back btw, you comin to comiccon?

I agree with you a bit here. The idea would need a bit or reworking to get it done though.

You're right, but I plan to organize it greatly and have full production done much like the pioneers in early animation days would work together. I see what you mean.

Not going to ComicCon. <:

I don't know, it takes million of dollars to release a film in theaters, I don't think NG can't afford that kind of stuff.

Or maybe I'm just stupid, I don't know how film industries work, But I'm sure its really expensive.

Well, we have animators, musicians/sound people, voice actors, etc. to work with if people participate. I'm ssure we could work some things out. Dunno about cost of getting it to fit theaters though.

all depends on the ideas i suppose but yea this could work. the only problem is that it'd be a big team of people over the internet which can get pretty balls

true, but not if handled right.

This is a really great idea. I'm not sure how realistic it is, but where there's a will, there's a way. I'm sure there are a hell of a lot of newgrounders who would be willing to tackle something like this. To organize such a big venture would be the biggest hurdle in getting something like this rolling.

Just a few ideas I came up with:

Character animation:
I'd propose that the easiest and maybe most fun way to do this would be if every animator involved in this would be in charge of animating only one character. When there's more than one character in a scene, the editor and director who puts it all together should work together with the animators involved with that particular scene.

Backgrounds:
I suggest that certain artists should be in charge of certain scenes. Like one artist does the backgrounds for a dream sequence while another artist does the backgrounds for a scene on the lake etc...

Music
I think music could be done much more freely with everyone getting involved and a kind of a voting system going on with who's music gets to go into the movie...

Storyboard:
I'm not sure how this will go down. Creating the storyline for a full length movie can get quite crazy if there's many people involved. I'm thinking not many people should be in charge of the story, but only a select few who can come up with the whole script but having the responsibility to sift through the thousands of ideas from other newgrounders, and then having to announce who's ideas they will be including to make sure they do include at least some ideas from the rest of the newgrounds family.

I'm not saying this is the way to do it, but I think with the proper planning this is totally possible!

If done, it'll be something like how you planned it, or something similar.

Hmm... Instead of a full length feature film, start with something similar to Fantasia? Using only Audio Portal music?
A lot easier to organize, and it avoids potential problems with a movie collaboration (time, getting people to do their part, differences in opinion of the movie's direction, etc)

True, but we dont want to rip off a movie that's already been made, do we? I'm sure me and everyone else would be able to come up with a main idea to work with.

Sounds Awesome!

Awesome like a possum.

I want newgrounds to sponsor artists' books.

That would be pretty rad too I suppose.

cartoon network isnt moving away from 2d

its moving away from cartoons entirely and will be showing sports (golf AND racing i kid you not) instead.

I knew about the golf, but RACING?! THAT'S JUST CRAZY AND OVER THE TOP.

stop being silly
that's just silly
you are a supercilious silly

just you wait and see boogley mah boi.

Brundaty I think it'd be better if the people here used their bloody IMAGINATIONS instead of just going

"HEY WAT IF PICO AND MADNESS FOUGHT A DRAGON MADE OF BLOCKHEADS AND IT HAD NINJA SWORDS FOR HANDS HURR HURR"

we have enough of that all over this website as it is.
the internet is becoming the last place for animators to go. last thing they need to be doing is the redundant stuff with franchises made by other people.

there's a severe lack of creativity with most of the content online. a pico movie wont solve that.

I have no intentions to make the movie about Pico, so no worries there. I'll probably collect a few people to be in charge along side me to make big decisions on what the movie will be about. I have a few ideas already, but before finalizing it, we need to set up who's going to work on what, what steps to do first, etc. You're right about just making a movie about Pico and whatnot though.

My first envision of this would be somewhat along the lines of how earlier animation companys did things to make cartoons back around the 30s and 40s. Working together with a few people to get things done. Sort of how Newgrounds/The Behemoth got their games done as well.

Right now I'm just throwing the idea of actually making a movie around to see how it's received. People seem to be in favor of it so far, as long as people are dedicated to making it work. If I do go along with it, it would defiantly be a long term and on going project that'll take plenty of time to complete.

There's nothing wrong with 3D animation. It's a much more vivid medium and than 2D and generally costs less to produce. I really doubt 2D animation will ever die out though, it's very different from 3D, and once audiences get tired of 3D (which I think they already are) 2D will become special again.

If I were given the choice between the two as a director on a movie, I'd probably pick 3D honestly... Unless I had a huge wad to spend. It also depends on the content. I wouldn't ever want to try Tom and Jerry in 3D, it just wouldn't work. But, then again, I wouldn't want to try The Incredibles in 2D either.

I'd have to disagree with you. 2D animation IMO can bring out a lot more emotion and expression than 3D animation can. As much as 3D animation can provide, mainly it's just used today as a cheap quick way to make a movie. Why bother with even making a movie if you plan for it to be cheaply done from the start?

Sure there are a lot of great 3D movies, but they would be just as great, if not better if they were all done in full 2D animated goodness. I recommend you watch a few color cartoons that were done by Max Fleischer and take note of the BG paning and character animation. 2D can do just as well as 3D can, without making everything look like its plastic. 2D animation, cartoon animation mostly, has a certain organic feel to it you can't achieve correctly with 3D.

Thats a great idea :D

YOU ARE
A FUCKING ASSHOOOOOOOOOOOOLE
well says luis, anyway

Without you I would never have known about the animation made directly to me for my Birthday. Thanks.

Great idea, I have thought about something like that a few times but I'm not popular or have enough experience to organize a bunch of people to work like that. Yet, it will be amazing to collaborate in any way I could to.
